Steven Wise and the quest for legal rights for animals

On Wednesday 6 May 2015 world famous animal lawyer Steven Wise was in Canberra to talk about his ground-breaking work with the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP) in America. The talk was part of the 2015 Voiceless Animal Law Lecture Series: 'Beyond the Cage'

This inspirational team of animal lawyers and other professionals have recently launched several court cases in an attempt to secure basic rights such as bodily freedom for captive chimpanzees.

You can find out more in a special fact sheet by the ADO on why it’s so important that animals’ status under the law needs to change.  The report also looks at the fascinating methods of Steven Wise and the NhRP and whether similar court cases could be run here in Australia.

You can find the ADO fact sheet here.
